Europe allows Viagra for children

The usage of Viagra has been approved as a form of treatment for children aged 1-17 in Europe;

The drug Viagra

Pfizer, a European drugmaker has announced that the European commission has now approved for children. But don't worry it's not for what you are most likely thinking, it is to help treat a rare and deadly lung condition.

Revatio has already been approved in Europe with the treatment  for adults with what's called pulmonary arterial hypertension, or high blood pressure in lung arteries. It can now be given to children aged 1 to 17.

Let's just hope this isn't going to be a take home drug for every day use, i'm sure that could potentially cause embarrassment for the younger patients prescribed with Revatio.

  17. I've heard of it "able" to treat conditions but I'm surprised they're actually using it for that!

  18. This is why I love medicine, it is like the create a drug, and THEN find uses for it. "Hey guys, lets make a drug that increases blood flow. What could that be used for?" "I dunno. Boners and Children's Diseases?"
    My question is has it been approved for adults to treat these conditions? Probably, but just sayin.

  33. I suppose if your child was about to die you would use anything with a remote chance of helping.

  34. This will only start a new kind of illegal spread of the drugs

  35. Oh dear... how potentially embarrassing. Still, if it could save a life I suppose...

    ReplyDelete
  36. This can save hundreds of thousands but I fear for the kids that have to take their script of Viagra at school..

  37. Interesting I didn't think it'd have a use like for the one it will be used in Europe. Still cool, hopefully they're aren't a bunch of, "excited" kids running around!

  47. They should re-package it as another brand but the same drug. Sure enough when the children get old enough to know what a gold mine they are on (think dexis/ritalin) they will start selling it on street corners to old dudes

  48. actually interesting story about viagra, it was originally intended to help decrease blood pressure, but they noticed that in male test subjects, it had an interesting side effect, so they turned it into an ED drug
